The primary purpose of financial aid is to provide assistance for students who otherwise might find it difficult or impossible to attend college. To receive maximum consideration for all types of financial assistance, students should file the FAFSA as soon as possible. Students must reapply each academic year.

Students enrolled in short-term programs (certificate or diploma programs less than 24 credit hours), enrolled solely in distance education classes, or attending another institution at the same time as Clinton Community College may not be eligible for financial aid or may have reduced eligibility. Types of Aid

Grants

Federal Pell Grant - The Federal Pell Grant is a federally funded program available to undergraduate students during the academic year. The amount of the award is determined by the student's financial need.

Please note, once a student has obtained a bachelor's degree, he/she is no longer eligible for the Federal Pell Grant. In addition, a student may only receive the equivalent of two full-time semesters of Federal Pell Grant during an academic year. Therefore, if you receive a full-time Federal Pell Grant for Fall and Spring semesters, you cannot receive a Federal Pell Grant during the Summer semester. However, if you are not enrolled full-time for both the Fall and Spring semesters, you may have Pell eligibility for the Summer semester. Also, the amount of Federal Pell Grant funds you may receive over your lifetime is limited by federal law to be the equivalent of six years of Pell Grant funding. Since the maximum amount of Pell Grant funding you can receive each year is equal to 100%, the six-year equivalent is 600%.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) - The Federal SEOG provides funds for students with exceptional financial needs. Please note, once a student has obtained a bachelor's degree, he/she is no longer eligible for the Federal SEOG Grant. Preference is given to Pell-eligible students who have the lowest family contributions. Funding is limited.

Iowa Vocational/Technical Tuition Grant - This program provides for the awarding of grants to residents of Iowa who are enrolled in post-secondary vocational/technical programs at Iowa Community Colleges and who show the need for financial assistance. Students must meet the July 1 state priority awarding deadline. Pre-vocational/technical majors do not qualify for the Iowa Vocational/Technical Tuition Grant. Students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours in an eligible vocational program and taking required core coursework to be eligible.

Kibbie Grant - The Kibbie Grant, also called the Iowa Skilled Workforce Shortage Tuition Grant, is for Iowa residents enrolled in specific programs at Iowa community colleges. To receive the Kibbie Grant, students must meet the July 1 state priority awarding deadline and be enrolled in an eligible vocational/technical program. Students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours in a qualified technical/career option program and taking required core coursework to be eligible.

EICC Grant - Preference is given to Iowa residents who meet the EICC March 1 priority awarding deadline, are not eligible for Federal Pell Grants nor other financial aid covering full tuition, and have completed 12 semester hours of course work with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at EICC, are registered for a minimum of six semester hours. Funding is very limited.

Loans

Subsidized and unsubsidized Stafford loans are federal student loans for eligible students to help cover the cost of higher education. Direct Loans are funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Students must be enrolled half-time (6 credit hours) to be eligible.

Direct Subsidized Loans - Direct Subsidized Stafford loans are available to students with financial needs. Under this program, the government pays the interest while the student is enrolled at least half-time. Students who do not complete their program within 150 percent of the length of the program may lose their subsidy. The interest rate is fixed and changes every July 1. The maximum amount students can borrow is based upon grade level, course of study, and financial need. For interest-rate information, click here.
Direct Unsubsidized Loans - Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loans are not based on financial need. Under this program, students are responsible for the repayment of the interest accrued from the date the funds are disbursed. Principal payments are deferred until six months after a student graduates, transfers, leave school, or drops below half-time status. However, students are responsible for the repayment of the interest accrued from the date the funds are disbursed. The fixed interest rate depends on when the loan is disbursed. Direct Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students - Direct Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students are available to parents or legal guardians of dependent undergraduate students. Parents or legal guardians may borrow up to the cost of attendance minus any financial aid each academic year. The fixed interest rate depends on when the loan is disbursed. The repayment period begins 60 days after the loan is disbursed unless a deferment has been requested and granted. The interest begins to accrue upon initial disbursement. Work Study

The Federal College Work-Study (CWS) Program provides limited part-time employment for students. Funding is provided by the federal government. In order to qualify for this program, students must demonstrate financial need.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements for the federal college work-study program may be able to earn their work-study through the "America Reads/America Counts" program. Under this program, college students tutor elementary-aged students one-on-one in reading and/or math. Tutors selected for the America Reads/America Counts program will receive formal training and must complete a background screening. Students from any area of concentration may apply to become a part of this program.
